North Korea’s conservation of wall paintings in ancient tombs are "not bad," but require assistance from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and South Korea to combat humidity problems, a top UNESCO official said Monday.

The Korean Central History Museum in Pyongyang is visited every day by some 1,000 people. Several thousand pieces of relics showing the long Korean history from the primitive age to modern times are displayed in 19 rooms of the museum.

A North-South academic conference to commemorate the addition of Koguryo tombs and murals as a United Nations World Heritage Site will be held at Mount Geumgang in North Korea today and tomorrow.
This is the first such meeting of the two Koreas on the ancient kingdom, which occupied much of present-day North Korea and parts of Manchuria. The meeting is sponsored by the North-South Historians’ Council with assistance by the JoongAng Ilbo and the North-South Academic Exchange Council.

A tile tomb belonging to Koguryo (B.C.277-A.D.668) has been discovered in Woldang-ri, Sinwon County, South Hwanghae Province, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The tomb was found in the mid-slope of a mountain. The floor, walls and cover of the chamber were made with tiles.

The 28th Session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO yesterday agreed to inscribe the capital cities and tombs of the ancient Koguryo Kingdom of China onto its world heritage list.
The selection committee also agreed to put the Complex of the Koguryo Tombs which is inside the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the heritage list. The Koguryo Kingdom once expanded to the Korean Peninsula.
